Move About launches the world's first corporate EV car sharing service at DNV
Move About has launched the world’s first public commercial car-sharing scheme with electric cars. At launch, 13 electric cars were placed at three central locations: Oslo central station (Oslo S), in Parkveien and at IT Fornebu. More vehicles and locations will be introduced in the coming months. Membership in the car-sharing scheme costs NOK 100 per month, with rental prices ranging from an hourly rate of NOK 100 to a weekend rate of NOK 800.
“The electric cars are safe, practical and fun to drive. By offering this service, we significantly lower the threshold for emission-free driving. Access to the bus lanes, exemption from road pricing and free parking make this a fantastic way for people to get around town,” says general manager Michael Eimstad in Move About.
Statkraft is also part of the team behind the project, and their sponsorship of the electric cars has made it possible to launch the new service. Statkraft also provides green electricity to the city cars which will now be serving the streets of Oslo.
“As Europe’s largest renewable energy player, we would like to see an even greater commitment from the Norwegian government to both production and utilization of renewable energy. That is why we are very pleased to contribute to this project,” says Statkraft’s head of Marketing, Grete Ingeborg Nykkelmo.
Statkraft also offers an electric car-sharing scheme to its employees who need to use cars during working hours.
“It’s important that we walk the talk, and this concept is a way for Statkraft employees to efficiently use clean energy,” says Nykkelmo.
In combination with public transport and bicycle-sharing, the electric car-sharing scheme is a good environmental alternative to private cars. The electric cars can be reserved on an hourly, daily or weekend basis, and members can access the cars using a personal wireless access card.
NSB (Norwegian State Railways) thinks the scheme is a positive contribution to help people choose environmentally friendly transport. NSB is participating in a pilot project to encourage customers to try the new service. Five city cars will be stationed at Oslo S, making it easy for NSB’s passengers to check out the electric cars. NSB customers holding electronic travel cards will have free membership in the scheme until October 1st.
The Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature (Norges Naturvernforbund) also endorses the electric car-sharing scheme in Oslo, and the organization has put its characteristic mark on the new cars as part of its cooperation agreement with Statkraft.
“More use of electric cars is very important in the work to reduce harmful air pollution in major cities. Therefore we enthusiastically welcome the electric city cars,” says the head of The Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Natur, Lars Haltbrekken.
